On January 28, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero helped move ITEC-Lansing toward a reality as a community technology teaching and research center. Mayor Bernero said, "Today we stake a claim for Lansing's future. We stake a claim in the information economy for our children...to make sure they are part of this high tech economy. We are blessed in Lansing to have incredible partnership in the public, private and academic sectors all working together. Michigan's children will need new skills for the changing jobs in the state's future.
A program in Lansing aims to teach these skills to children in elementary school.

Leaders from MSU, Lansing and the corporate world have announced a new high-tech learning center for youth - a public-private partnership spearheaded by employees in MSU's Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
The Information Technology Empowerment Center, or ITEC, will open in summer 2008 and offer low-cost programs such as math, science, engineering and digital media.
